2021 Brancaia ‘Il Blu’

Brancaia’s flagship expression, a Super Tuscan from vineyards in Chianti Classico. A blend of Merlot and Sangiovese. Estate Grown from vineyards in Radda and Castellina in Chianti. Organic. 30 year old vines. Aged in new and used barriques.

Vinatage Notes from the Winemaker: Winter began with rain and snow, replenishing soil water reserves. February was mild, leading to early bud break in March. A temperature drop in April threatened production, but fires and treatments saved most crops. May was cold and rainy, requiring vigilance against fungal diseases. Decision support systems helped monitor plant health and minimize chemical use. Summer saw hot, dry conditions, with vines surviving thanks to their age. A brief period of high temperatures stressed the vineyards, but rain restored balance. Late summer brought ideal temperature variations for grape ripening, with warm days and cool nights until October.

"The finesse and beauty of this wine are rather breathtaking, with currant, mint, spearmint, sandalwood and blackberry aromas that follow through engagingly to the palate. It starts off medium-bodied, but then grows on the palate and spreads out at the end with reserved fruit and superb tannins. Fantastic structure and balance. Needs five or six more years to come together."
