2020 Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
Allegrini’s Amarone is a benchmark of the region, a gastronomic and modern style that gives both richness and elegance. A blend of Corvina and Corvinone, with a small percentage of Rondinella and Oseleta. Estate grown. High elevation vineyards.
Vintage Notes from the Winemaker: Nature surprised us again this year, and we have to consider ourselves lucky to have been spared the violent weather that hit areas not far from us in the province of Verona. The ripening of the grapes proceeded somewhat in fits and starts, especially because of the rain in the summer. The good weather in September, however, in combination with our decision not to accelerate the harvest, enabled us to obtain excellent quality grapes. For the reasons we have mentioned, the harvest was prolonged and, like all long harvests, this made it possible to choose the best time to harvest in every single plot and for every single variety, from Corvinone to Corvina, and from Oseleta to Rondinella.
94 points, James Suckling
"A bold interpretation of Amarone. Refined aromas of licorice, dried cherries, camphor and menthol reverberate across a compact, dense mid-palate. At this early stage, the tannins feel largely oak-derived. But there is nothing blunt about them and there is ample mineral infusion and freshness. Bottle age will serve this rich Amarone well, placating the primary fruit while transforming the wine into something far more complex. Very good. Drink or hold."
