2020 Poggio al Tesoro Dedicato a Walter

Dedicato a Walter, made from 100% Cabernet Franc, stands at the absolute pinnacle of the Poggio al Tesoro portfolio. This single-vineyard, monovarietal wine is dedicated to Walter Allegrini, one of the founders of the estate who passed away in 2003. The 7 hectare vineyard extends "Soprastrada" above Via Bolgherese and is recognized as the most prestigious in the entire appellation. The estate grown wine is intense and spicy with notes of red fruit and silky tannins. Organic. 30 year old vines. Aged for 2 years in new barriques.

Vintage Notes from the Winemaker: The seasonal development of the vintage in Bolgheri was quite well-balanced, apart from a few cold nights at the end of March when the temperature dropped below zero. The rest of spring was beautiful and sunny with some rain at the right times, thereby guaranteeing correct vegetative development with uniform flowering and fruit set. The month of June saw very few rainy days, except for some rainfall during the first week which protected the vines from drought stress. Towards the end of August, summer temperatures gradually began to drop following some rainfall, making it possible to continue harvest. A sunny, warm September with marked differences in day-and-night-time temperatures accompanied us for the rest of the harvest.
