AN AMERICAN IN PIEDMONT
Chris Bangle, the American designer famed for his work at Fiat and BMW, reveals his favorite places to eat, sleep, drink and visit in and around Turin and Piedmont
Creative inspirations
The landscape that surrounds Borgata Gorrea in Clavesana, where I live, gives me a lot of inspiration: nature, vineyards, the colors and the clouds in the sky, the Monviso and the other mountains that seem so close on bright days… and the wonderful people.
Shopping for design
For ‘designy’ gifts head to Green Pea at Eataly (Lingotto). But the shops I visit most often are the hardware stores in Carrù, Valente and RMF, because it’s where I’m sure to find the tools I need to work!
The outdoors
I love the walk up to Superga and the climb to the Mole Antonelliana that hosts the Cinema Museum.
A spot of aperitivo
Floris House Palazzo Marenco in Torino; Gran Bar Piazza Gran Madre di Dio 2 Torino; NH Collection Torino; Piazza Carlina, Piazza Carlo Emanuele II, Torinol; Caffè Vergnano Viale Francia, Vinovo.
Where to eat
For a nice drive and to see a pretty town square, book a table outside at Locanda dei Bressani, Piazza Maggiore in Mondovì.
Guilty pleasure
A guilty pleasure I rarely allow myself is a grappa at the end of the meal.
